DID YOU KNOW that #OHN was started in 1945 by a left-leaning flemish newspaper (het volk) that thought the #tourOfFlanders newspaper sponsor (het nieuwsblad) was too nazi-friendly? the tour of flanders was the only #cyclingClassic to be held in nazi-occupied belgium. het volk and het nieuwsblad merged in 2009, and that's when the name of the race changed to omloop het nieuwsblad.

i did not know any of this. the history of these races is wild.
