The 2027 #TdU is running mens and womens stages on the same day, with the women's 90 minutes after the men's. They're selling it as a gender equality measure.

But it isn't. It's a money saving measure, as it's cheaper to run an event for 7 days instead of 2 events over 10 days. It short changes women's TV coverage, as they will not get their event covered in full. It still only runs a 3 day event for the women vs than 7 days for the men.

Perfect example of spinning a money saving story into a false gender equality story.

World first Santos Tour Down Under merger to make cycling history...

The Santos Tour Down Under (TDU) is set to make history as the first WorldTour race to hold menโ€™s and womenโ€™s stages on the same course on the same day and over the same distance next year. In the most significant development to the race program in the eventโ€™s 26-year history, the TDU will run both menโ€™s and womenโ€™s stages concurrently when the 2027 edition is held from January 19-24 (subject to final UCI calendar approval).

Here is the situation after 3 days of apathy and hospitalisations in Bulgary: General time classification It was only determined by the punchy 2nd stage and a couple of time bonuses. 1. A sprint is to be expected again, favouring the sprinters who can handle an uphill finish; even though a breakaway could have its chances in theory, as the line is closer to the climb than it was in stage 3.
