I was thinking about pre-ordering the #clickscommunicator but I am hesitant.
I think it is wise to wait for more information and unbiased reviews to drop.
For now, I did a little digging myself:
I watched a few episodes of the podcast that now feels like promotional build up for the device. In one episode (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gkxih-aIBbw) they talk with Petter Neby about the potential software for this device: ApostrophyOS running on Punkt phones, allegedly built on the basis of @GrapheneOS. This sounds very intriguing at first but when I looked into that a bit, I stumbled across a forum thread (https://discuss.grapheneos.org/d/22958-aphyos/) discussing MediaTek SoCs being unsuitable for GrapheneOS and various other issues, maybe worth a read.
*Edit2 (12 Jan 2026): I highly doubt it is running "ApostrophyOS". This render on the website shows the Niagara-like launcher and Google apps (https://www.clicksphone.com/en/communicator#discover | https://cdn.prod.website-files.com/66f575e72f06b9820f448d43%2F6965113256f3d10b21dde36e_communicator-launcher-24fps_mp4.mp4).
On @heiseonline it is pointed out (https://www.heise.de/news/Clicks-Communicator-Android-Smartphone-mit-Hardware-Tastatur-11129599.html - in German) that the amount of RAM and the exact MediaTek chip isn't specified yet and they apparently only promise updates up to Android 18 (Android 16 +2 years, but 5 years of security updates).
*Edit1 (12 Jan 2026): FAQ now promises 4 Android version updates and 5 years of security updates. https://www.clicksphone.com/en/communicator#faqs
In the comments below that heise-article, someone linked to a thread (https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=46467057) about fxtec, the company behind the device, being extremely unreliable.
On the website of this company (https://www.fxtec.com/) they proclaim to be partnering with both Clicks and Punkt, and they show off a bunch of devices, including their previous QWERTY-phone endeavour, the »Pro 1X«, which has plenty of disgruntled comments on its Indiegogo page: https://www.indiegogo.com/en/projects/fxtechnology/pro1-x-smartphone-functionality-choice-control/comments
And I haven't even started about the #digitalminimalism marketing, trying to sell you yet another device, so you can use devices less.
I want this little thing to be good. I love the idea of having a small BlackBerry Passport with modern Android app support in my pocket. But for now I remain skeptical.
