I get that as a prime minister he’s got to factor in what’s best for Canada’s economy right now, but as a prime minister he owes it to future generations of Canadians to preserve the environment and climate we have now as well.

Le sigh. Poilievre is opening his mouth again.

“What has Mark Carney really done in a year on this? He hasn't held negotiations in five months.”

The article points out that “there have been no ‘substantive’ trade talks between the two countries since President Donald Trump erupted last fall over an Ontario ad that featured former president Ronald Reagan pillorying tariffs.”

As Trump is finding out with the Iranians, it’s very hard to hold negotiations if one side doesn’t want to show up. Right now the Americans are negotiating only with the Mexicans.

Carney is probably right that the time is now to disengage on relying on trade with Americans as the prime engine for Canada’s economy.

Meanwhile the BA in international relations life long politician continues to think he knows more than the PhD in economics central banker for two countries who guided Canada through the global economic crisis and the UK through Brexit.
