These are dwarfed by the huge scale of new threats. Life amid the 3-dimensionality of a thriving habitat contrasts with the flattened desert & devastated seabed after the passage of a bottom trawl.

19-06-2022 Klimaatmars 2022 📣✨ Trots op onze rebellen die vandaag extra aandacht vragen voor de vervuiling van de visserij! ✊🌏🐋 De oceanen zijn de longen van de planeet, en zorgen voor tot wel 80% van de zuurstof op aarde. Maar ze veranderen snel in dode zones waar nauwelijks leven mogelijk is - wat onze toekomst ook in gevaar brengt. Daarnaast is de visserij nauw verbonden met de fossiele industrie, met meer CO2 uitstoot dan de gehele luchtvaart! 🤯 De visserij is schuldig aan: ⛴ Het leegvissen van de oceaan. Op dit tempo zullen zullen oceanen in 2048 nagenoeg leeg zijn 😢 🐋 enorme bijvangst - zo’n 40% van alle vangsten. Waaronder bedreigde soorten, dolfijnen, schildpadden en zelfs walvissen. 🦞Plastic vervuiling - 46% van alle plastic in de oceanen bestaat uit visnetten (!) 🐟 Vervuiling door ziektes, pesticiden & antibiotica via kweekvis 🧪 🦭 Bodemtrawling, de meest destructieve vorm van visvangst, die het bodemleven verwoest met een tempo van wel 4,316 voetbalvelden per minuut 😡 Het is daarom onacceptabel dat er nog steeds Europese subsidies zijn die de visserij steunen. Dit wordt gefinancierd met belasting die wij als burgers betalen. Heb jij @seaspiracy al gezien?
