Hell yeah, a new project at https://babel.aartaka.me! Tweets of Babel is a reproduction of Borges’ Library of Babel in the form of likeable tweets that can be communally rated and trending. It’s quite primitive, but all the basic workflows are there! Go like some random tweets!

“So you get this classic example – as you do with #HGWells – of someone who’s philosophically incredibly brilliant, as #Borges obviously is, and manages to predate what is then classified as scientific theory simply by thinking about the universe in an interesting way” fivebooks.com/best-books/j...

"Walter’s 'skeleton library' metaphor. An LLM, he argues, is not a library, it is what remains after a library’s contents have been atomised into a geometry of vectors. The texts are gone; what survives is a structure of statistical relationships so granular that any content can be reconstructed, blended, or redirected by warping the architecture itself."; approaches to illuminate the present. Coincidentally, yesterday, while exploring a gift shop, I discovered J. Borges, not Jorge Luis, the Argentian writter that I love, but José Francisco Borges, a Brazilian artist from Pernambuco.

Now I like two J. Borges, the Argentian writter, and the Brazilian artist, which I need to explore more.

After more than two decades, I reread Deutsches Requiem, written by Borges in February 1946. Having lived in Germany for more than nine years, I now see this short story in a different light, and Borges’ genius feels even more apparent.

Before returning to Germany this weekend, I will attend a performance of Brahms’s A German Requiem with my parents. The piece explores human compassion, mourning, and fragility. Borges’ short story, on the other hand, presents the perspective of a Nazi concentration camp commandant reflecting on violence and the rejection of empathy.

If you do not have access to The Aleph, the Wikipedia article offers a good summary (with spoilers).
