Love this ornate, and rather frog-like, Victorian bootscraper outside a townhouse in thr Park District In the West End of Glasgow.

Bootscrapers of Park Circus in the west end of Glasgow. Bootscrapers are very basic, functional item of metalwork, but I love all the different ways they've been made to look a bit more fancy.

Love this style of bootscraper from outside a townhouse on Hill Street in the Garnethill area of Glasgow. The exact same bootscrapers can also be found outside 10 Downing Street in London (and you can often see them on the background during news conferences and interviews carried out on the street outside - and yes, I'm geeky enough to notice such things!).

The Renfield Saint Stephen's church on Bath Street in central Glasgow. Designed by John T. Emmet in an early English Gothic style, it was built around 1850. While you can't see it in this photo, on the right hand side, there's a rather beautifully sculpted griffin nestled into its eaves, while by its front door, it has a pair of the largest wrought iron bootscrapers in Glasgow.

I love these bootscrapers outside Alexander 'Greek' Thomson's Great Western Terrace in the West End of Glasgow. They just fit so well with the lines of the rest of the building.

I love it when I come across an old bootscaper still in place. This one, outside a Victorian townhouse in the Park area of Glasgow, is particularly nice, if a little bit worse for wear, and is nearly identical to the ones outside 10 Downing Street in London, the traditional home of the British Prime Minister. And before anyone asks, yes I really am geeky enough to have spotted this!

A very simple, but fully functrional design for a bootscraper outside a tenement in the Woodlands area of Glasgow.

Love this ornately sculpted bootscraper recess beside the front door of the 1870s Western Baths Club on Cranworth Street in Glasgow.

I'm not ashamed to admit that I like a bootscaper. This is a particularly elegant example outside a townhouse on Royal Crescent in the West end of Glasgow.

I think this might be the largest bootscraper in Glasgow. Most are about six to eight inches across, making them just wide enough to scrape the sole of one boot at a time. This one outside Renfield Saint Stephen's Church on Bath Street is about a foot and a half long meaning several people can clean their boots at the same time.
