Interestingly, this isn't the only connection between the city's tenements and what is probably the most famous statue in the US. The stone used to make the steps leading up to its base came from Dumfries, and is the same distinctive Locharbriggs red sandstone used to make many Glasgow tenements from round 1890 onwards.

A statue of Liberty overlooking Queen's Park on the Southside of Glasgow from the top of W.M. Whyte's 1885 French Renaissance style tenement. This makes it marginally older than it's US equivalent, which was only dedicated in the following year.

Love the cupola on this corner tenement on Paisley Road West on the Southside of Glasgow. Such feature corners are a major component of the city's architectural traditions, and one that contributes substantially to the unique feel of its streetscapes, but it's also something which is sadly missing from most modern buildings.

One of the more common art nouveau tile patterns you can find in tenement closes across Glasgow. I particularly like the blue colouration on this one, and the craquelure within it.

A mid-1800s gushet tenement between Old Dumbarton Road and Yorkhill Street in the west of Glasgow. The flat, but recessed corner wall is a feature I've not spotted elsewhere in the city.

One of the decorative sculptures on W.M. Whyte's 1885 French Renaissance style tenement building on Queen's Drive in Glasgow. The sculptures are divided into a number of themed sets. This is from the set representing the seasons. Other sets represent crafts and arts. There are also figures thought to represent the architect, the builder and caricatures of the bailies who initially rejected the plan for the development.
