The Knowe, Albert Drive, Glasgow. This beautiful Romanesque villa was designed by Alexander 'Greek' Thomson and was constructed as a country house in several stages in the 1850s.

This amazing fireplace can be found in the entrance hall of Alexander 'Greek' Thomson's 1850s Holmwood House in Glasgow, the most complete surviving 'Greek' Thomson interior. This includes the surrounding colour scheme and Classical-inspired stencilled wall decorations.

Holmwood on the Southside of Glasgow. Built in the 1850s for the paper magnate James Couper, this is Alexander 'Greek' Thomson's finest surviving building (at least in my opinion), and it shows a side to his creativeness which is not as obvious in his more numerous townhouses and tenements.

An imposing red sandstone Edwardian Baroque style former warehouse on the corner of Bell Street and Albion Street in central Glasgow. Built in 1904, it was designed by the architectural firm Thomson and Sandilands, the Thomson of which was John Thomson, Alexander 'Greek' Thomson's eldest surviving son.

The terminal pavilion of Alexander 'Greek' Thomson's 1859 Oakfield Avenue terrace of townhouses in the Hillhead area of Glasgow. I've been photographing quite a few of these recently, and it seems Thomson took a few more risks with these side elevations than he did with the main front elevations in terms of breaking symmetry and making use of a wider variety of architectural elements.

Sometimes you can just glance at a building and instantly know it had to be designed by the great Glasgow architect Alexander 'Greek' Thomson. This is one of the windows on his Oakfield Avenue terrace of townhouses in the Hillhead area of the city.

One of Alexander 'Greek' Thomson's lesser known Glasgow buildings on West Nile Street. Constructed as a commercial building in 1858, it has a certain simplistic charm to it, but it's not exactly in the best condition.

The eastern terminal pavilion of Alexander 'Greek' Thomson's 1869 Great Western Terrace in Glasgow. I particularly like the chimney stacks which take the form of a pilastrade (or a row of pilasters). There is a similar pilastrade on the western pavilion, but it has dormer windows between the chimneys.
