By 1894, the hospital's capacity had expanded to 74 patients, but this was still tiny in comparison to Glasgow's population at that time. As a result, it was replaced by a new, larger purpose-built hospital further west in Yorkhill, which opened in 1914, and this building later became a school.

Funded by charitable donations, it received its first patient on the 8th of January 1883. At this time, it has just 58 beds, but included an isolation ward and an operating theatre on the top floor lit by gas lamps. In 1888, a separate our-patient department, known as the Sick Children's Hospital Dispensary, was opened a short distance away on West Graham Street (in a building that's now part of the Glasgow School of Art).

A much-extended former Classical style mansion on Scott Street in the Garnethill area of Glasgow. Re-designed by James Sellars, the sculpture over the door of a mother and child reveals it was the site of the first dedicated children's hospital in the city.

The rather brilliantly named Normal School for the Training of Teachers in Garnethill in Glasgow. Designed by D. and J. Hamilton and built in 1837, it was the first institution in Britain specifically set up to train professional teachers.

50. Self Portrait

🧠 I was taking photos of the beautiful buildings around Charing X and Garnethill but this convex mirror on a post is what really caught my eye!

⭐ I love the contrast between the colourful reflection and the almost black and white branches and sky.

➡️ On to try again on a sunnier day to maybe get a blue sky background.

34. Lamppost

🧠 I thought the lamppost looked really good with the more modern flats in the background.

⭐ Level of background blue is good. I don't think I've overdone it this time!

➡️ I feel it's a bit bland in colour. Maybe it would look better black and white.

33. St. Aloysius

🧠 I love this church building and thought it looked interesting framed between the building on the left and the wall closer to the camera with graffiti.

⭐ I think I've made the church stand out enough that it doesn't look too messy, just a lovely grand looking church in a busy city.

➡️ The top quarter of the tower looks hazier than the rest of the building and I'm sure I could fix it if I knew how... The angle my camera was at means none of the vertical lines are exactly perpendicular so I don't know if the way I've cropped it is best.

31. Towes

🧠 This is part of the view from Garnethill Viewpoint. I used one of the railings to rest the camera on.

⭐I tried Lightroom Classic for the first time (rather than web version) and I think it gave much better control over light and colour editing.

➡️ I didn't quite get the effect I was aiming for with the railing visible.
