"BLUES FOR THE RED BOY"

Blues For The Red Boy

Recording of rhythm and blues got underway late in World War II, 1944/1945. "Blues for the Red Boy" is a good example of a phenomenon in those early days. It was released in 1947; it charted on October 23, 1948, in time reaching the No. 4 position; and it slipped off the Billboard rhythm and blues ("race") chart after 14 weeks, in 1949. Jukebox play was very important to popular music back then.
