Paul McCartney discusses life during Beatlemania and the grounding influence of his family

Paul McCartney reflected on the intense early years of Beatlemania during a recent appearance on The Zane Lowe Show, where he discussed both his memories of global fame and the personal strategies that helped him cope with sudden superstardom. Speaking about the Beatles’ rapid rise in the 1960s alongside John Lennon, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr, McCartney recalled a moment when he and Starr traveled to Greece with their girlfriends, believing they had found a place where they could remain anonymous. At the time, he thought the country might offer a permanent escape from fame, but that illusion quickly faded as the Beatles’ popularity spread worldwide. McCartney described realizing that fame would likely be a lifelong condition if he continued his career, prompting him to make what he called a “big decision” about whether to step away from music or continue living under constant public attention. Ultimately, he chose to continue performing and recording, developing personal strategies to handle the pressures of celebrity life. Central to his ability to stay grounded, he said, was his upbringing in Liverpool and the influence of his family. He credited them with teaching him how to put others at ease, a quality he later adopted in his public life and interactions. The interview coincided with the release of his new album, The Boys of Dungeon Lane, which reflects on memory, time, and personal history. Rolling Stone described the album as a reflective work from an artist looking back on a long career, emphasizing its nostalgic and autumnal tone. McCartney’s comments add another layer to his ongoing exploration of fame, identity, and longevity in music, showing how early experiences shaped his approach to life in the spotlight.

Just realized Paul McCartney from the #beatles was born exactly 2 days before Brian Wilson from the #BeachBoys (I would have guessed McCartney to be born later, because the Beach Boys got famous earlier, but regardless the coincidence is funny)

Young people, zero sex

Italy no longer has children. It’s inevitable: the young people don’t meet, they’re glued to their phones, they talk to each other via WhatsApp. Result: zero sex.

Dear reader, according to an investigation from last year by the New York Times, 25% of Americans haven't had sex in at least a year, and among these, young people under 30 are a staggering 30%, four times the 2008 figure. The same phenomenon is occurring in Japan, accompanied by solitary lifestyles and isolation from their communities. Something similar may be happening in Italy too, given the low birth rate. However, I don’t think it’s just the phones’ fault. Of course, isolation from hyper-technology matters as does the widespread pornography on the internet, but in my opinion, the underlying cause is the lack of shared ideals. It’s paradoxical, but I believe the death of ideologies has something to do with sex. The fall of illusions—those that were once called “social utopias”—creates dissocialization. If you are no longer part of common thoughts and aspirations, the attraction that unites young people of the same generation disappears. In essence, the opposite of ’68 is happening, when people were united even when divided by opposing barricades of right and left: we were all part of that historical current that animated our societies. Now that’s no longer the case. Perhaps there are signs of a rebirth in the resistance against the butcheries in Gaza, but it’s too soon to say that a new era is on the horizon. For the moment, all we can do is regret the times of the Beatles, the hippies, mini skirts, and the sexual revolution, when things were much better.

LA NOTIZIA

Just listening through Abbey Road. Funny that on the very last album created by the band that John and Paul made, the two best songs are both by George.

#Beatles

OK, hand up everyone who believes Ringo really wrote Octopus's Garden solo? It's not a sophisticated song, sure; but it's so perfect of its kind that I can't make myself believe it's not at least 50% Paul.

#Beatles

I am really enjoying the newest album by #PaulMcCartney. It has in many places quality of the #Beatles album, but it does not sound dated. It is nostalgic, but also uplifting and in some places experimental.
Lyrics evolve around youth years of Paul McCartney in Liverpool. The strongest songs for me are:
-Days we left behind
-Home to us
And
-Momma gets by. #Notareview
