Sat outside with the bat detector on listening to the chirps of some pipistrelles as they zip past #batstodon

Had a bat excursion with daughter in the woods tonight. Guides had bat detectors and infrared cameras. We saw/heard 5 different species!

Serotine - Eptesicus serotinus - heard
Daubenton's Bat - Myotis dauber - seen
Common Pipistrelle - Pipistrellus - seen
Nathusius's Pipistrelle - Pipistrel - heard
Noctule - Nyctalus noctula - seen

Till this evening I only knew (and saw) one species.

Is it possible that I had a collision with a bat on my cycle ride home tonight? It was night time and I felt something something light crashing against my scarf. I fleetingly saw what, at first sight, looked like a large black butterfly. Then I realised that a) there are no such butterflies round here and b) one wouldn’t feel the impact of a butterfly flying into you! Which brought me onto the idea that maybe I just had a collision with a small bat. But how likely is that?!? #Cycling #batstodon
