Frank Bennett 🇯🇵I'm stuck today with one of my late wife's tools, and I need help. The machine is a 4-thread serger with an automatic air-pressure threading system that requires the thread be initially be inserted 2cm into a small hole. The thread in the machine is polyester, and frays immediately when cut. The frayed end will NOT go into the hole. I've tried oil, water, and heat to smooth/stiffen it, all with no luck. Suggestions please!

Juki Baby Lock BL3-438
My latest acquisition is another Baby Lock serger. The other one is at home in Tokyo, so I wanted an additional one to use here in Osaka. I was lucky to find this one on an online auction for very little, but in excellent condition. It arrived just last week!
It is practically identical to my BL3-500, with the exact same parts, so if ever either one of them breaks, I'll be able to use the other one for parts.

Juki Baby Lock BL3-500
I got this little overlock machine or "serger" a couple of years after I started making jeans.
The first Baby Lock model was developed in 1967 as a small domestic version of industrial overlock machines. It was a huge hit, and a great number of models were subsequently released. This one is from the early 90s.
The plastic body has turned quite yellowish, but it still sews as well as when I first got it. Pics 2 through 4 are from 2000, when it still had its original color.
