I'm ecstatic to have a great #MeMade wardrobe! It's so fun to see what can be created with each new and often repurposed piece of fabric.

Sewed my #QuiltCoat lining first to check fit

I’m happy with the length. A little surprised at the amount the lapels will open, glad I didn’t add any design elements at the top. It’s a bit bunchy around the armpits, but it’s basically a giant T so I didn’t really expect ideal fit there anyway

Excited to quilt the quilt part now - going to use Thermore batting so it’ll 🤞🏻 drape really nicely

Happy New Year! I slept through the festivities and the fireworks as I always do. This morning I decided that the new year means using my hoarded stickers.
Thus my 2026 handmade day planners will make me feel happy all year.
Use your nice things 2026!

I've learned from anywhere and everywhere that I could, over the last few years. I learned basics in Home Ec classes, way back in my school years, and I sewed for my adult kids when they were little. As I've retired, sewing has become a passion, and my wardrobe has gradually become #MeMade. I had the best luck once I had thrifted fabrics, instruction, and simple patterns. I use YouTube when I absolutely have to, but video instruction isn't my favourite. Most quilting and fabric shops have some classes. Start with fun and easy projects like bags and pillow coverings, until you develop confidence with the machine and other tools.

My current goals for 2026 involve maintenance, since I've developed a number of practices that are really serving their purpose. So, I plan to:
-Keep #sewing my #MeMade wardrobe, utilizing modifications and techniques that are working well for me.
-Continue with #LanguageLearning in #한국어 #Korean, using a variety of learning materials and opportunities. I hope to have a 3-sentence dialogue with Korean speakers within the next couple of months.
-Keep using my #AppleWatch stand reminders to do various household tasks, including dishwashing.
-Continue monitoring my eating, BP, and exercise, with an intention of continuing to lose weight without hunger or deprivation.
-Keep planning #travel with a multi-week #camping #roadtrip, within Canada. Continue to plan towards a return #korea trip in 2027.
-Join social and volunteer activities with like-minded people at least weekly.
-Keep reading at least 2 books/month.
-Continue watching and sharing #kdrama, with a goal of understanding.

Picking a lining fabric is a little bit like matchmaking! 💞

You want to pick a lining that goes with your main fabric- for example, a silky rayon bemberg is a perfect match for this medium-weight wool coating. For a cotton eyelet, a smooth and lightweight cotton fabric would complement it well. For a rain jacket, a removable flannel lining might be just the thing!

We chat about lining styles, methods, fabrics, and more in Episode 187 - listen in if you missed it or if you just want a refresher.

Are you traveling this holiday season? ✈️🚗🧳 Bring your sewing with you!

We know, holiday visits are usually pretty busy. But if you can squeeze a little bit of sewing in during the quieter moments, it might make the difference between frazzled and festive. Sewing is such a nice brain reset. Here are a few ideas for bringing your sewing along with you:

🪡 Hand sewing takes up a lot less space than machine sewing. Do some hand finishing on a garment - or do some of the construction steps by hand! It can really improve your skills.

🪡 Embellish your me-mades or thrift finds with hand embroidery.

🪡 Try out a new hand sewing technique like applique or hexie quilting.

🪡 Bring your machine along and work on whatever makes your heart sing.

We have a bunch more tips and ideas in Episode 234: Sewing and Travel! (Not to be confused with Episode 273: Sewing FOR Travel, which is about sewing clothes, bags, and accessories BEFORE a trip. 😂)

Finally had some daylight/sun this weelend, so you bet i used it for a bit of sewing. 1 curtain hemmed, 1 project bag sewed up for a Christmas present, and 1 duvet cover turned into a test of the Jalu skirt concept i keep seeing online. Max helped!
