Just had an interaction with a Youtube commenter who was criticizing someone's Audio Technica LP120 as if they got a Crosley or something, and this dude had the nerve—the gall... the GUMPTION—to preface his response with "Not being an elitist, but[…]" before recommending that I compare it alongside a Linn LP12, which, in case your feet are a little too close to the ground, currently retails for about $20,000.

Well I stand corrected. They're not an elitist, I just haven't had the opportunity to hear just how good a record can sound on a player that costs about as much as a small car. I bet you it's *almost* as good as a CD!

When I get some spare time I'm going to be designing some open source PCBs for a moving coil turntable preamp that people will be able to order from somewhere like JLC PCB. It won't have so many tantalum capacitors, for sure, and probably far fewer polarised caps in general. The PCBs will certainly be much smaller.

Here's an example of high level hi-fi #audiofool - ery as well as a ongoing fight for #righttorepair. Apparently there's an company parting #audiofools from 25k for an audio preamp and when someone opens one up to repair it they find it's worth, at most, one hundredth of that. The manufacturer, Tom Evans, slaps a copyright strike on tge YouTuber for exposing the scam.
