I was in Quartzsite, AZ yesterday, on my way to California. Of course I bought gas before crossing the border, because it’s like $1.50 a gallon cheaper in Arizona. And if you drive into town a bit, you can avoid the gouging gas station right off the I-10. I came across the Hi Jolly monument, which is an interesting historical footnote, and explains the camel ride options. I used to come out to Blythe for my job, so I know that Quartzsite is known for its gem festivals, but yesterday, unfortunately, there was only a gun show. Ugh.
I bought some groceries, and in the parking lot there was a car with huge bumper stickers: HEAVEN AND HELL ARE REAL AND ETERNITY IS FOREVER. What must it be like to live with this sort of terror your whole life? Oh man, pull yourself out of the 17th century! And that sent me down a rabbit hole of speculation about childhood indoctrination, etc. (yay #athiests).
But, yes 75 degrees and no snow!
