An overview on running #FreeBSD, #NetBSD and #OpenBSD on the #PINE64 #ROCKPro64 #arm64 board, bare and with PCIe extension cards, in the context of building a NAS system.

*BSD discovery on the PINE64 ROCKPro64

Iโ€™ve been lurking on the PINE64 ROCKPro64 for a long time but its price compared to other options has always kept me from buying one. But being very happy with my ODROID HC4, I went hunting for a ROCKPro64 and found one. I have (a small) ZFS NAS plans for it. But before I get all the hardware, letโ€™s take a quick look at it running various BSD systems.

Notes for March 30 โ€“ April 5

This was a shorter work week partly due to the Easter weekend and partly because I book-ended it with a couple of days off in an attempt to restore personal sanityโ€“only to catch a (...)

Matt just discovered that writing a #tail-call #interpreter in #Rust is surprisingly fun! ๐ŸŽ‰ Apparently, outperforming his own #ARM64 #assembly is no big deal. Let's all pretend seven months counts as "recent" in Rust-land! ๐Ÿ•ฐ๏ธ

TIL that updating U-Boot for your #arm64 can improve OS hardware compatibility.

Gotta to (re)do all my tests and observation on the #ROCKPro64 as it has changed things... at least on OpenBSD...

I think this #GoToSocial instance ran on #OpenBSD #arm64 using #ODROID HC4 is doing pretty well while eating (only) 5W.

Once, someone asked what was the weirdest platform you run GtS on. Well...

This message was sent from  #GoToSocial running on an  #OpenBSD #arm64 board (#ODROID HC4).

Compiling #Go and #NodeJS stuff on an #OpenBSD #arm64 board is quite visible from a #Grafana point of view... Interesting thing is all cores are used in parallel; in case you wonder is this OS is thread-aware.
