Ubuntu Concept expands to CIX Technology P1
Ubuntu Concept was first released for Snapdragon X Elite systems, and it got lots of positive and strong reception due to the hard work that they’ve done, starting from November 2024. It was an ambitious work that tried to get Ubuntu working on as many Snapdragon X Elite systems as possible.
Now, the team has taken the effort further and expanded Ubuntu Concept to include CIX Technology P1. The new images were created for this platform, and is derived from Ubuntu 26.04 LTS Resolute Raccoon that was released last month. Those concept images were made as a tech preview for developers and for power users.
This concept image is focused on being a developer-focused image intended for early testing on CIX platforms. It’s based on the latest Ubuntu 26.04 LTS Resolute Raccoon version, which brings all the great benefits that this version of Ubuntu brings, such as the updated GNOME desktop. Linux 7.0 is used in this concept image, with some modifications that are tailored for this platform, and you can see the custom kernel’s source code here.
The team is trying to avoid device trees wherever possible to maximize both reliability and maintainability, while making use of ACPI to make sure that computers that utilize the CIX platform become reliable when using Ubuntu. This concept image, however, is experimental, and is not intended for production use.
Here are some of the platforms that the team has tested:
- MetaComputing AI PC Framework Laptop
- Minisform MS-R1
- Orange Pi 6 Plus
- Radxa Orion O6
- Radxa Orion O6N
