Great #aprs VHF coverage in Strasbourg with my Yaesu VX-8GE and the small rubber antenna. Thanks @F4EGX_Nico and @F4FXL 👍
Bummer, I think? The ISS is gonna stop operating its 2m #APRS service and switch to 70cm
adopters of technical things all our lives. I was on the Internet before AOL. Way back in the CompUServe days. I was on #PacketRadio long before #APRS was a thing. Long before #WinLink. I poked around with AI very early on. My resistance to it is not 'cuz I'm an old fuddy-duddy. (...cont'd)
Late night #APRS #bike ride with my budget #PacketRadio setup. 14 miles around the #Illinois State Capitol. Baofeng with a magnetic mount 2m/70cm antenna on a pizza pan in my rear basket.

Funny, I just wrote a blog post about a problem I was having writing this app and then realize I should probably share what the app is! 🤦‍♂️

The app is a 🚀 space weather app for amateur radio enthusiasts trying to better understand radio propagation. It is aimed at newly licensed hams, but it is fascinating to learn about the topics my self!

Let me know what you think.

@ARISS_Intl so there will be no 2m #APRS on the #ISS in the future?
I was hoping they would be transmitting on #aprs #artemis
I love #aprs. A simple, known technology build upon established protocols is amazing. Having this infra available universally everywhere is cherry on top. Yet under somewhat perfect conditions performance ax.25 giving is sad. This is also my first maritime #amateurradio ops. Not being able to reach digis that I hear was frustrating but texted with @ooguz at least.

Tactical Callsigns in #APRS
Using a tactical callsign can be incredibly useful for specific operations. However, it remains your responsibility to ensure that using one is actually legal within your jurisdiction.

Every country has its own telecommunications laws regarding amateur radio identification. In certain countries (f.e. G, SP, D…), transmitting without official, licensed callsign (often in a very specific format) is strictly prohibited. It is worth noting that this applies to APRS packets as well.

Before configuring your device with a tactical call, please double-check your local regulations. Furthermore, keep in mind that APRS software often includes various features that are not explicitly marked with legal warnings. Simply because a function is available within the program doesn't mean it's legal to use in your country; activated could lead to unnecessary legal complications.
Ignorance of the law is no excuse, and transmitting illegally can damage the reputation of the entire amateur radio community. #hamradio
