One unexpected encounter on a #ham #radio #trip today. Luckily its mommy didn’t show up. #wwff OKFF-3159 #pota CZ-0200

I was just testing #aprs and #meshcore coverage of a close hill before lunch. Sadly, it is still too low for UHF to reach anywhere suitable.

I want to write an APRS bot from start to finish. I know how to connect to APRS-IS, I've even done it via telnet just to see what the traffic looks like on the wire.

What's the approved way to test APRS-IS connections so as to not be mistaken for a threat actor and find oneself blocked? Some attempts will just fail or be malformed, etc.

@hamradio Also giving Nymeria APRS a try. Looks super promising as well. If you have any other suggestions for more modern APRS clients, let me know!

Nymeria — Modern APRS Client

A modern, web-based APRS client built for individuals and teams. Real-time maps, multi-user sessions, RF integration, and emergency communications tools.

@M0KHR @g7kse #APRS is a tactical info system. There is not much use in peace and calm "weather" for non-geeks.

It is used just to practice the skills and maintain the infrastructure. People use it for self-spotting SOTA or other outside HAM activations or car tracking (serve as coverage and IGate tests).

This changes during events / emergencies though. Erecting a local repeater / IGate can be done quickly (more so with solar + LoRa). And the deployed teams can use it (or DMR) to share info.

@hamradio Hello Fediverse! Been playing around with the #Retevis #Aliunce #HA2. Can anyone point me to resources or help with pairing it to a Linux device for packet/APRS?

I haven’t been able to find much for this device, since the TNC was only added recently to the firmware.
