#Australia has vowed to repair the graves of dozens of Australian soldiers in #Gaza after satellite imagery & witness testimony revealed they had been #bulldozed by the #Israel Defense Forces.
More than 250 Australian #soldiers are buried at the #GazaWarCemetery, administered by the Commonwealth, most of them #lighthorsemen who served WW1. The worst damage has been sustained to a corner of the cemetery that houses the graves of Australians who died during WW2. #auspol #ANZACS
An excellent article. This spoke to me in so many ways. The conservative capture of the RSL and the AWM, and of course the misuse of ANZAC Day to glorify war leaves many ex-serving members in limbo. Our governments are terrible and our journalists insufficiently curious.

Somewhat surprisingly the answer is #Australia and #NewZealand. It appears that the #ANZACS have joined the #Nazis in protecting war criminals from prosecution.
Schools are deliberate targets for government-funded mystification about Australia’s role in wars. Such instances of official remembrance crowd out the realities of war, and the consequences of Australia’s role in imperialism. As teachers, we should strive to resist this, and we should introduce our students to a fuller understanding of the history of the Anzacs.
