The popular mathematician Hannah Fry did a DNA test ... And explains what's what, so so clearly.

Yes it is an advert.

And yes it's really good!

I've just noticed something really odd in Ancestry DNA. I can see two DNA tests ... My own and a friend's.

If you do a DNA surname search for "Lord" in DNA matches trees it pulls up ALL our matches, including matches with no trees at all. This happens with my matches and my friend's.

How weird is that!

I am actually looking for matches with that surname :((

Yes, the longest segment I share with my matches has been on Ancestry since before I did my DNA test.

I use the ProTools add on which showed the total amount matches shared with each other from the outset, about this time last year???, but it left blank the largest segment my matches shared with each other. It's only very recently that the largest segment information between other people started to appear.

Perhaps only a matter of days ago.

I have just spotted (in past few minutes) that Ancestry #ProTools listings of DNA shared between cousin matches also now show the longest segment DNA cM amount when you click on the (blue) suggested relationship line.

The first version of ProTools showed only the total amount of DNA our matches shared with each other & left the "longest segment" space empty. Now the amount appears.

Strongly suspect this is the "unweighted" amount, whatever "Unweighted" means here.

Another morning without any new #AncestryDNA matches. Been a week now. Seems odd.

I check briefly every new dna match I get to note anything interesting.

In fact I'm waiting for a cousin who tested last month to appear. Somewhat frustrating.

Patience, R, patience.

There is a very minor ticking off awaiting those who put their ancestors' wives in their family tree with their married surnames, before they pass through the pearly gates.

@scottwilson NSA spent a fortune on the #ancestryDNA intercept only to find out they could have had it all for free from #23andMe.
