Who Are The Only Two Indians To Win The Nobel Prize For Economics? Know These Icons And Their Achievements
Great to see Julia Steinberger referencing the work of economist Amartya Sen. I still have a copy of Development as Freedom, it's essential reading for everyone who wants to understand the relationships between human freedoms and economics.

This is a quite extraordinary piece of misrepresentation. So far from being a demilitarised colony #india provided large numbers of volunteers for the #britishimperialforces in both world wars . The causes of the #bengalfamine are best set out by #amartyasen - who lived through it . Not enough was done quickly enough to avert it - and the problem was more to do with both a shortage of shipping worldwide and competition for food within the native population.
I wished I had enough presence of mind to occasionally ask myself “what would Amartya Sen think now?”
I'm sure I'd make better decisions if I were able to
I've always enjoyed the dry clarity of Amartya Sen's prose. Here he discusses the supposed benefits of British Imperialism for India, saying:
#colonialism #imperialism #India #AmartyaSen #Britain (1/6) 🧵
