#Google fired her for refusing to retract it in 2020. The firing itself proved the point she was making. The people who pay for the system can't afford to hear what's wrong with it. Every warning from Timnit Gebru's "On the Dangers of Stochastic Parrots" has now come true. At scale. Hallucinations, bias amplification, environmental cost, un-auditable training data, model collapse.

Everyone should be paying attention to the evidence about the dangers and magnitude of the #AICon regardless of the madness of the new IPOs about to be dropped on the #GreedCulture

When AI stops being a solution and becomes a risk you didn't account for…

The uncomfortable truth is that companies are racing to ship autonomous agents without building the operational muscle to handle what happens when those agents behave unpredictably. Price is $600 billion per year in unplanned downtime (total), up 50% in two years. That's from Splunk and Oxford Economics covering AI automation errors, model drift, and AI integration bugs across enterprises.

AI was supposed to prevent downtime. Instead, it’s creating new kinds of outages

New research suggests AI itself is increasingly becoming the source of costly operational failures.

the industry wants us to believe the “black box” is mystical rather than statistical, because mystery sells and helps them defer accountability.

This #TIME page is a reminder that “AI” is the equivalent of a pop-up ad. No one ever wanted them either.

The #AICon is off the charts
Very foolish. Very dangerous.

A Reddit post about the frustration of a developer who contributed #emacsclient support to #Gemini CLI, only for #Google to transition the tool to an enterprise-only, closed-source model shortly after.

[…] My takeaway is that in the future I will think very carefully before contributing again to non-FOSS projects.

Yes. Also, the small problem of Google and AI use in genocide and war crimes, but not a priority I guess.

@maxleibman Because they already know the the perpetrators of the #AICon and #AI_Hype won't like the answers. 😎

@jitterted

better not to get sucked into #AI at all, or it will start sucking your money before long

On how to unconvincingly weasel your way out of a big LLM 💩 …

[…] Mr. Rosenbaum’s book contains many quotes that are accurate, but the misattributed and invented quotes are scattered throughout.

[…] In his statement, Mr. Rosenbaum said that if the episode “serves as a warning about the risks of A.I.-assisted research and verification, that is why I wrote the book.”

#AI is a marketing term, not a technology. Preferred term should be the term #llm because that’s what it is. Also, I’m pretty sure this will be normalized soon enough and we will be told to just relax and accept this equivalent of ultra-processed food as acceptable compromise.

‘The Future of Truth’ Contains Quotes Made Up by A.I.

Steven Rosenbaum, author of “The Future of Truth,” said he had started his own investigation after The New York Times asked about the fake quotes.
