Opposing walled gardens to the greatest extent likely calls for fighting fire w/fire. It’s not hypocritical if you see it as a social contract rather than a moral standard. This is much bigger than simply an anti-walled-garden move. They want to bring #adSurveillance to the fedi. Not good. I would sooner give up connecting to ad surveillance pawns.

@woozle @andrewt I agree w/putting MS & Google on the dark side of that line despite the fact that you lose reach to probably 90% of the population. But consider a simpler rationale: instead of digging into whether their config is malicious or yours is lacking, simply knowing that Google & MS harvest all #email they can & exploit it for #adSurveillance profits, that’s reason enough to boycott them
@av01ding @jwildeboer All the best alternatives are extremely tight on disk space, naturally, b/c they aren’t using the exploits of #adSurveillance to pay for the disk space. If you’d rather not pay the premium of more disk space then consider fetching every msg on a scheduled basis & storing it locally. If you need both mobile & desktop access to the same msgs then it can get complicated.
