"Fix Your Radio Hour" a success, except I forgot to take a photo of my operating position at Burns Park in Ann Arbor under the shelter. (Very civilized, with a picnic table to set up on, and a handy nail to hang my 2 meter roll-up J-pole antenna.)

I have borrowed a #XieguG90 to use as a portable HF station, and I have an offer to borrow an end-fed random wire antenna. This would be the park to operate all that from. The #G90 is in a very nice go kit.

Scoping out Ann Arbor parks for a weekday morning activation - I think the next one will be Fritz Park which has lots of trees and good elevation (285m, or about 30m more elevation than home) for a 2 meter QSO.

Ann Arbor is celebrating its bicentennial this year, and one of the parks was recently renamed Bicentennial Park, and now I'm scheming to operate a special event station from there.

Has anyone ever done this? I see directions at the FCC.

@ai6yr There is one POTA park that might plausibly be within bicycle range from here, Chelsea State Game Land K-6643. At worst I could drive to the nearby town with my bike in the back, park at the trailhead, and bike in on the Border to Border Trail.

Of course there are tons of #AAPOTA ("Ann Arbor Parks On The Air") parks in town - 160+ ! - so I will get lots of practice before doing a #POTA trip.

Parks on the Air | POTA | Parks program for amateur radio.

Parks program for amateur radio, also known as Parks on the Air (POTA), including a map and list of entities for the program.

POTA

Headed out to Burns Park AA-023 this morning to work the weekly morning roundtable on #N8DUY 145.15- , with Jim #W8STX net control.

It was windy and I had a lot of wind noise on my mic until I got under the shelter. I hung up my #N9TAX roll-up J-pole, connected it to my #Quansheng HT, with good reception reports.

A strap to put around a tree so that I can hang the J-pole from it would be a useful addition to the kit.

I'm about 15% (23 of 160+) done making a numbering plan for Ann Arbor parks, and I'm using #arborwiki to publish the work to date.

@arborwiki_changes

In parallel I'm working on an annotated PDF based on the official 2023 city park list.

Arborwiki is kind of old in spots, but fortunately parks don't change all that much. The plan is to edit as I go to include radio operations.

#POTA thought experiment. 1. Make a list of municipal parks in my area - start with City of Ann Arbor because that's here - numbered sequentially from AA-001 (Allmendinger Park) to AA-161 (Wurster Park). The list at https://www.a2gov.org/departments/Parks-Recreation/GIVE365/Documents/2023%20Visit%20Every%20Park%20Guide.pdf will be authoritative once a sequence is added. 2. Publish the list in convenient formats. 3. Call CQ PARKS AT PARK AA-024 BURNS PARK 4. Hope to reach someone else at a city or county park. 5. Follow good amateur practice. #POTA #NOTPOTA #annarbor
