One of the most overlooked musical genres is the Yu-Mex movement from the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia.

It was a highly artistic fusion of Mexican and Spanish folklore with Yugoslavian and socialist modernity. It was only after NATO's bombing campaign that this fascinating culture disappeared.

My #yugo friend @senapsgas just introduced me to #Yumex #music and as someone with a mexican mum, and therefore, raised in #mexican #culture this both amazes me and baffles me, it is perhaps the strangest cultural exchange I've ever learned about.
