Mise à jour du portable #Xps13 sur #Fedora avec passage de la 42 à la 43 en une petite vingtaine de minutes.

Propre et rapide.

Je n'utilise plus beaucoup cette machine mais même a plus de 10 ans d'âge, elle tient encore très bien la route (bon sauf la batterie qui elle ne tient même plus une heure).

J'attends ce week-end pour migrer la machine principale et faire le tour des nouveautés #Gnome.

#PSA: On the #Dell #XPS13 (model 9380) the Fn+F8 key for toggeling external displays actually does not send a #keysym but Super+P instead.

This makes it the only Fn+key combination that cannot individually be captured on #Linux. In order to use that key, you need to configure Super+P to do whatever you want Fn+F8 to trigger.

Hello dear fediverse, I seek out your wisdom, especially in the foss community. I have a VERY particular problem that I decided to come to you all with!

I have a dell xps laptop that will reset the BIOS whenever it dies from battery going to 0%
got the laptop for cheap, it is quite old, I essentially saved it from being ewaste, so I would like to take care of it as best as I can, so "get a new laptop" is not going to fix my problems
Dell got this LOVELY feature where it will "raid" the disks automatically when the bios is reset. Truly lovely feature. The BIOS will also gracefully reset the settings of the laptop and lose my boot partition so I have to manually enter it (I have gotten really good at EFI due to this, but I digress). My two things would be:

1) remove the RAID chip from the mobo to avoid it from trying to do that again, not sure if that would break it completely or how viable that is. I can turn it off in BIOS, sure, but it will go BACK to the setting no matter how I save, truly a feature of "I will fix the computer for you!!!"

2) install libreboot

I am very aware that both options can brick the laptop in question, so please, if anyone has a similar issue and know a better fix or have experience, send help

Hmm, sounds like Dell are killing the XPS line.

I've had 2 XPS13 machines (shipped with Linux pre-installed) and they've been great, but looks like next replacement personal machine will likely be another ThinkPad X1 Carbon (the current work machine)

Noch mal eine Frage: Ich würde mir gerne demnächst einen neuen #Laptop zulegen, scheitere aber gerade ein wenig bei der Suche.

Die Herausforderung scheint zu sein, dass ich unbedingt #Linux haben will und gerne dazu eine akzeptable GFX Karte, die auch ein wenig #Steam Zockerei erlaubt. Gerne klein, ich habe einen Dell #XPS13 9320 und mag dessen Größe sehr.

Habe bei #Dell und Lenovo #Thinkpad nachgeschaut.. So richtig was passendes habe ich jetzt nicht gefunden. Entweder sehr groß, oder ohne vernünftige GFX Karte oder halt nicht sicher Linux kompatibel.

Hat jemand Tips, was ich mir mal ansehen könnte?

* Linux (idealer Weise Ubuntu) kompatibel ohne riesige Kopfstände.
* Eine "vernünftige" GFX Karte
* Gut transportabel, also eher möglichst klein und leicht.
* Vernünftige Tasstatur (die Leuchteleiste der XPS Laptops ist echt unangenehm).
