I bought a Samsung Galaxy Tab S10 Lite so I'd have a mobile device with a stylus again hoping I would start drawing and writing more. Twelve months, no interest payment terms through Best Buy.
The drawing is off to a slow start but after fiddling with defaults and disabling genAI shit, I've been writing much more over the past two weeks. It feels good and it's easier than carrying around a couple of spiral notebooks.
Writing by hand, even on a tablet, feels very different than typing. It connects me to the words differently. It's visceral and organic. It's also much easier to avoid LLM intrusions than when typing a story live.
I still have to type it up on my laptop eventually if I want a shareable copy; my handwriting is illegible to almost anyone else (and, occasionally, even to me). I tried running a sample through a few OCR programs and the results were pure gibberish.
I wrote for nearly four hours total last night. That's unheard of for me as an adult. But I could carry it between rooms and do it anywhere, no clipboard or table required.
Now I just need to devise a good system for organizing what I'm writing. Whatever I come up with can't be worse than trying to remember which spiral notebook I used and finding the right pages.
