Perk Of The Job

It was perfect deck weather this afternoon, so I made sure to take advantage of it.

John Burn-Murdoch (FT) suggests rather than AI being the cause of a decline in entry level jobs, actually it may be the rise of remote working (working from home) that has made employing new starters less attractive.

New hires require more supervision & need to be inculcated into the ways of their employer, all of which is more difficult remotely.

This also may explain why younger workers are less keen on WfH than those with more established careers.

Last week was my first week in a new #job. It was also my first time working in an #office since before #covid.

On Friday I finally found the incredible office #gym. Its full of nearly new really high specification equipment for both #cardio and #resistance work. Its also spotlessly clean. Even the showers and changing rooms looked really good. You would pay quite a lot to be a member of a gym that good.

I am going to be #WorkingFromHome from now on though. Damn.

Today has been a challenge. The part of my brain that pictures things and helps me to understand stuff went AWOL this afternoon. Think test card, television fuzz, blank screen with a beep... you get the picture (no pun intended).

Thinking it could be the augur of something nastier - this doesn't happen very often - I stepped away, made a cup of tea and thought nice thoughts in my safe zone.

It's one of the benefits of working from home, having a safe zone, an area I can remove myself to and try to refocus.

The nice thoughts were Duncan Fearnley Magnum bat, Gray Nicolls GN500 bat and the wonderful food we had in Japan, btw.

Another cup of tea followed by dinner, some favourite television shows and an early night are called for.
