I meant to write this post a while ago, but it got eated by Tusky. Oops.
Anyhoo, my first #Workaway experience was brilliant. I'm probably a pretty extreme outlier as a Workawayer, most seem to be young and single or couple/no kids, but Workaway has good filters and settings for families, so it was easy to only contact hosts that were happy to host families - though a single parent family is a bigger ask in many ways.
I was lucky to get a host who had a really lovely separate guest accommodation, so we had privacy and that suits me fairly well, though it would have been fine to be in the same house as they had a child my daughter's age and I think she would have really liked that. But under the circumstances it worked better maybe that they had some separation or could have got seriously overstimulated! The work in this case was mostly childcare related and worked great for us. The weather was pretty chilly so didn't really spend as much time outside as we would have in warmer weather, but still a good amount of nature walks & farm time.
If you are thinking to join workaway, I absolutely can recommend it! It's much bigger than #WWOOF was back when I first did WWOOFing, and very easy to navigate: though the website, especially the messaging feature, is a bit buggy.
My #AffiliateCode is: A55X5165, which I mention mainly because if you sign up with it you get 3 months additional membership for free, which is much better than the 1 month free I got with the only discount choice I could find a couple of months ago.
Happy to answer any questions!
I'm looking for #ecovillages or similar communities In west or south of France or North of Spain.
I'd like to visit and volunteer for a few days or even weeks, in my VW camper-van.
Do you know any? Or anybody who can help me find some?
Boost = love :)
Option 3 - Cut costs
Similar to Option 2, but also cut costs to the bone.
#wwoof ing - "wwoofers" volunteer on organic farms in return for room and board. https://wwoof.net - many countries have independent organizations.
workaway.info has a somewhat similar program. Both have a modest fee to join, worth it.
With only your actual travel and incidental expenses, you can support yourself with a fiverr type job or other small income activity.
