Use-It-Up Soup – Bone Broth, Frozen Veg, Beans & Pantry Pasta - At home with Mrs E

At home with Mrs E

It's been an evening of food-making, and now we have pasta bake, pumpkin and feta tart, chorizo and bean soup and I'm waiting on a plum-bread-and-butter pudding that's still in the oven. Let me know if you want the pumpkin feta tart recipe and I'll post it -- it's pretty good, and I think I'll make another version later in the week with walnuts this time.

I've been struggling with food waste lately which I really hate, but I'm feeling happy about having used up some bits and pieces in the meals tonight, plus adding in some extra vegies and legumes in the pasta bake that the Rabble are surprisingly fine with now.

So now I've got lunches sorted for Adam and me until at least Wednesday and the Rabble at least until Tuesday.

This does mean that the kitchen is still a mess, and it's 8.30 and I don't want to clean it up. Why are we living in the timeline where all our art is being stolen to train AI instead of having a robot in the kitchen to clean up after us?

Our duvet cover wore out - the fabric near our faces thinned and tore. I used an old top-sheet whose matching fitted sheet had worn out and fashioned a pocket with which to replace the entire upper foot of the duvet cover. The cover is toasty warm and you can’t even tell where it had shredded.

@EllenInEdmonton Good going, PastEllen! I love it when PastMe does FutureMe a solid.

I have three totes that have all the "this has a plan" fabric. ...and then there's some overflow. And it has a plan, too, but it's not for summer or autumn. Basically, once I get the org done, I need to start doing a massive cut-out and prep for rainy-day sewing.

One of the IKEA storage totes is just full of fabric that's going to become a pile of Uptons for me to wear. And part of the overflow is fabric for Topo Pants. I also need to make some gardening sleeves with the other canvas that's hanging around.

I've started making 'knitting kits" with my yarn as well. I just need to remember they exist. I think the hardest thing is that while it's in pristine condition, fabric and yarn is just unending potential. Once you cut or start to knit, it feels limiting.

They will tell you to put a pack of oil pastels in your starter pack at art college. You wonder why… for me they sat unloved except for some experimenting with life drawing and white spirits. Fast forward 20 years (yeah 20 years!) and I brought them on holidays. I hated them, liked them a bit better… then here.. I started to fall in love with my old cheap pack of oil pastels.
Was an #EcoArts effort to #UseItUp but in the end became a love affair. #MastoArt #IrishArt #Drimolegue #MastoDaoine

2 days to go on my #UseItUp experiment. Working from home means I can bake bread - this is the last of that buy nothing bread flour + the last of the hemp seeds, topped with canned herring in mustard sauce that I bought on a whim, and parsley from the garden.

I've ordered my grocery deliveries for the weekend (produce box + regular) and forcing some creative cooking has been good, but I'm really looking forward to not having to think as much about what I'm gonna eat.

#UseItUp food prep for this week:

- barley bread
- nettle toum
- hummus
- chop veg into sticks
- overnight oats w/ dried jujubes
- hard-boiled eggs
- lilac jello w/ frozen blueberries

Pasta w/ kale, mushrooms & beans for dinner tonight maybe. If we can keep ourselves from devouring the bread + toum.

I'm a bachelor for the week, my partner is taking off to be with his dad in the hospital.

I think that means I make squash soup and eat it all week. With daylily bulbs, cheez powder, and moth beans (#UseItUp). Sardine salad for lunches? I didn't end up making that last week.

More breakfast cookies, no caffeine this time.

I want a dessert, if I'm not too tired after the rest of it. Preserved lemon bars sound amazing, with a less fussy crust tho. https://www.teaandfog.com/home/2018/4/preserved-lemon-bars

#UseItUp I like the sound of cookies

Wonder if I can get away with using a load of icing sugar instead of regular sugar?!

#UseItUp ideas for things to do with dried fruit? (raisins, cranberries) That aren't necessarily cake?
