Americans do have a one-track mind when it comes to going to places.
stadt.welt(1) Impressions from #Brussels #Belgium: There’s a lot of really nice urban #greenery, even in very #dense areas. This provides shade, reduces #pollution, cools the #city and it improves the overall atmosphere.
(1) Lübeck is a #city in northern germany close to the #balticsee and its #historic city centre is an island surrounded by #rivers. This #island was the first larger area to be declared as a #unesco world heritage site in 1987 and is rich in medieval #architecture. Being an island comes with a problem though: In order to access it you need bridges. Several of the bridges in Lübeck currently have to undergo heavy renovation, partly leading to road closures.
But I think this circumstance poses a great opportunity for a bold step in city #politics.
(1) This is a station of the Dortmund Metro. While I’m glad there’s an extensive metro network I could’t help questioning the placing of many stations in the middle of very wide roads. This comes with several negative consequences for the people that intent to use the metro.

(1) Taken on a recent trip to the #village of #Kirrweiler in #rheinlandpfalz demonstrating how to make a #street unfriendly for #pedestrians. Of course the #historic building on the right shouldn’t have to move, but why put #parkinglots on the left side and not a proper #sidewalk where for example strollers and wheel chairs could move safely and with ease? As the Marktstraße visible here is the main road through the village many cars pass by, so walking on the street really isn’t an option.
