I have been busy lately, but with many fun things!
The other day Mol Mol concluded her wearable neon class that I was helping teach at Urbanglass with a stroll around town fashion show. Oh what fun!
I had a wearable hat from awhile back, but just got helium gas and had always wanted to see it in uncoated noviol glass. It was an early neon yellow before yellow phosphor was around. The helium tends to run hot if you dont underfill it and its power hungry, while not as bright as neon gas, but its a nice yellowy and purpley glow. In the noviol its a pretty gold.
I made the halo and its clear head mount in one hour, completely from scraps in a move fast an make things, flow state. Throughout the class I acted as a neon angel- coming over to give suggestions to struggling students or sometimes just do some tricky bends for people.
So many fun students with neat ideas :)

Had a blast at the Urbanglass fundraiser gala. Ali broke a "U" while installing it- so I made another in an hour- all good for when the people made it up. Ali's after-party glass horse derby went swimmingly, and the living photo wall we made for the spring rebirth theme was so fun to make! So many greeneries and roses!

Your Magic Is Real deinstalls tomorrow. Not pictured is the giant vinyl ball from the walls. Tomorrow is the start of a long journey where we compress a week to 1.5 weeks worth of work and driving, deinstall and travel- into less than one week! Wish me luck!

My neon auction items "bend whatever you want" were well recieved. I think they auctioned it two or even three times- which I am happy to help make to support my favorite local place to teach. Never been a better time to give to the community nonprofits.

Show coming up + commercial neon + 3 upcoming classes = oh dear I am busy.

I did make a crackle tube this week with Kacie Lees- such fun! We decided to make the upcoming crackle tube class on April 19th an 20th a Bring Your Own Glass - BYOG - to smash and put inside a tube :). The recycled aspect makes the final tube more interesting and its also just fun to smash glass every now an then. With a community of students and glass professionals- Urbanglass has some really interesting glass trash to smash.

I made a few gifs of the crackle tubes as photos can't really capture the frenetic nature of a tight fill. I also added a gif of Kacie attaching an electrode on the topo chico seltzer bottle krypton crackle tube I made. The topo bottles I smashed had enameled labels so they hold up to the heating needed to purify the glass.

EAR Inn repairs are all done, Donald my favorite installer should be putting them back in sometime in the next few days.

Bread #5 will be in the oven. Breadmakers say it takes about 5 breads to start finally getting it. Help put that to the test by breaking it with me in person, OR join in virtually. Not sure I will get to any of the virtual questions, there will be a delay, but I will check em.

Bread update!

I bring you bread 3!

If you look back to my last post, you can see the size of the dough about doubled overnight while in the fridge. I was grinning ear to ear while baking it this morning- seeing it increase in size again in the oven :)

The verdict- delicious- however I do think I could add a little more salt next time. I added more starter (about doubling it), but didn't change the salt ratio to keep it at 2% of the flour mass. So the bread is a little on the bland side flavor wise. Just flour, water an salt!

Maybe I am rushing a bit, but I think for Bread 4, I am gonna include some flavorants- Sun dried tomatoes and maybe some cheese an olives or fried onions?

I am planning on bringing bread 4 to crit night at Urbanglass this Thursday, the 13th at 6pm. You can come to crit my Art and/or my bread as we break bread together.

A belated post from last Friday at the Urbanglass Hot Glass Hangout. It was my friend El's last hurrah before they move to LA.
This hangout was in the flame shop (in my opinion the best studio at Urbanglass) and was a three way collab to make a chandelier. El did the neon tube bits. Fran made the angel torso with penis, and Han made little critters in bubbles and chains. So much fun- that a day later I ended up with the norovirus thats been going around- should have washed my hands more :)

El an their partner Abel (who is a pro baker) inspired me to start baking bread - thats my second bread. Anyone here care to see bread? Anyone have any bread tips for sourdough starters? Otherwise, I am just gonna post them to pixelfed :)

A day after posting that last post, I finished the "Office" at Urbanglass and it's shining brightly now.

Currently setting up for the Pattern free class- it's gonna be fun!

Feels good to have the office lit. Yeah I am a little off the pattern.... But aside from everyone on here- no one else will know ;)

I got to bend something out of the studio at Urbanglass just for fun with some scraps. This is so fast to make when a pattern is not involved. A little uneven. I wonder if a hybrid, description, length (circumference) pattern could be made with measurements cut down the middle?

I wanna make a sphere. The spring is pretty fun. Kinda busy with work lately.

I made this #ad for the Instagram demographic the other day for a class I am teaching at #Urbanglass next week. I mashed together a few AI generated soundtracks to appease the short attention spans. I don't like posting there, but it's such a frictionless and habit forming app that they have lots of users.

It's an intermediate level #class for sure, and one I have wanted to teach for years. In #Brooklyn we have access to one of the widest #color pallets in the world when it comes to Neon. So I am teaching students #inkscape so to design their neon and then they can generate a bill of materials to see what colors they want to use (or can afford).
Also teaching them basic #animation techniques using #Arduino.
Learning some #design tools to go beyond the basic red and blue tubes and dive into the "Magik" and #special effects you can get with #luminous tubes!

Since I am not giving money or attention to Meta, only about 200 people will see it.
