Uh oh.
Apparently no injuries, so phew.

It's relatively cheap to lay 4km of ground level train track, the delay on this has to do with not wanting to increase the amount of time the level crossings gates are down in Brunswick and North Coburg.

Doubling the frequency of trains means doubling the amount of time the level crossing gates are down.

So they're removing the level crossings through Brunswick by 2030, a few years later they'll do the level crossings in North Coburg and then we'll get a line duplicate a few years after that.

I don't expect the Upfield line to have more than the current 20min frequency until at least 2040.

i.e they're keeping public transport bad because motorists might complain.

Infrastructure Victoria calls for upgrade to 'unreliable and infrequent' Upfield train line in Melbourne's north

In one booming growth area, north of Melbourne, locals are forced to drive to avoid long delays for trains during peak periods. Multiple groups are calling on the state government to upgrade its services.

Congestion on the Craigieburn Bypass heading out of Melbourne/Naarm

"Geez, the north bound lanes on the #craigieburnbypass is chockers this evening. This is what happens when you allow development of new residential suburbs on the northern periphery of Melbourne without extending the electric train service. The #upfieldline is waiting to be extended from Upfield to Craiguieburn and Wallan. All those people at risk of Vampires ... we kid you not."

RMIT CUR - VAMPIRE for Australian Capital Cities (SA1) 2016

This dataset is the Vulnerability Indices for Mortgage, Petroleum and Inflation Risks and Expenditure (VAMPIRE) for Australian Capital Cities for the year of 2016. The data has been calculated for each SA1 region region within the Greater Capital City regions following the 2016 Australian Statistical Geography Standard (ASGS).\n\n The VAMPIRE index is a research method developed at RMIT University's Centre for Urban Research (CUR) commissioned by AURIN. It assesses socio-economic oil price vulnerability in Australian cities based on an analysis of socio-economic indicators from the ABS. This technique has been successful in linking socio-economic data with an improved understanding of socio-spatial structure of vulnerability from rising transport and housing costs. Providing the VAMPIRE index in AURIN's existing data infrastructure will permit researchers and practitioners to access and evaluate VAMPIRE within their own local contexts.\n\n The key (and only) dataset used to construct the VAMPIRE index is ABS census data for 2016. For each census year four Basic Community Profile (BCP) variables are used: (1) median household weekly income; (2) proportion of households owning two or more vehicles; (3) proportion of people traveling to work by car; and (4) number of homes being purchased with a mortgage.\n\nFor more information please view the [Technical Documentation](https://apps.aurin.org.au/gate/technicalreports/vampire-index/AURIN_VAMPIRE2016_Project%20Report_Oct2018.pdf).

“After Sunday cafe-sitting Dad cycled us up to Northern Memorial Park where we watched the #MerribekMob of #EasternGreyKangaroos grazing. We held our bark! There were joeys too!
#UpfieldLine train passed.
These are the Roos that inspired Dad to ask questions in 2018 about a Council #Biodiversity Plan. The Council Nature Plan was subsequently developed and approved in 2020. Thanks Dad for making a difference on the #BiodiversityCrisis

I was interviewed on Solidarity Breakfast | 3CR Community Radioshow Sat 10 Dec. Interview starts about 12 minutes in. Subject was the swings against Labor in the Northern suburbs, and the silence on upgrading the #Upfieldline extending it to Wallan. I also discuss the VAMPIRE index (vulnerability assessment for mortgage, petroleum and inflation risks and expenditure) adding to #costofliving pressures in northern suburbs.

Also for the first time the MPs representing #Merribek have all signed the #climateemergency declaration.

@ajsadauskas #PublicTransport infrastructure projects played a part in this result. In SE Suburbs where Suburban Rail Loop project has started Labor's vote was boosted. Liberals advocated cancelling this project.

In Northern and Western Suburbs which are groaning with population growth infrastructure has not kept pace.

I know the Northern Transport Corridor best and #UpfieldLine needs extension to Craigieburn and then to Wallan to meet transport needs for social equity. Craigieburn line already approaching capacity.

Labor margins reduced substantially across 5 electorates. With good transport policies Liberals could be successful in 4 years time in some of these seats, unless Labor addresses the public transport and infrastructure gaps.#auspol #vicpol #springst #DanielAndrews
