Security warning to lawyers, police and judges ahead of arsonist’s release

A specialist threat assessment centre has been contacting the group of law and justice figures about their personal security ahead of the man’s release from jail this week.

The Age

Emergency services were called to reports a car had struck a 68-year-old man near the intersection of Richelieu Street and Ballarat Road about 12.15pm on 29 January. The man was transported to hospital with critical injuries where he has since died.

Ballarat Rd is a four lane 60km/h road. Being hit by a car at 60km/h is almost guaranteed death.

Richelieu St is 320m from a pedestrian crossing to the west and 382m from a pedestrian crossing to the east.

Someone was always going to die here because this road was designed to kill people.

"The free travel, which will run until February 1, has seen an average of over 2 million trips per weekend, a 23% increase compared to the same period last year."

23% is the expected one-off boost to public transport patronage that you can expect from making it free.

If they provided a break down of trips I reckon much of those trips are short trips that people might have walked or ridden before (although some might be longer short trips that don't make sense to spend $11 on).

Improving service frequencies and the area serviced in the only sustainable and cheapest way to actually increase public transport patronage.

The Metro Tunnel was supposed to deliver service upgrades across the network but those upgrades are yet to materialise.

@deepfryed that's literally how it works. All properties pay it via rates. We just don't have massive properties in the city, so don't pay for the same acreages.

Farmers just don't want to pay their fair share, and that much was obvious when they marched on parliament to demand the levy not be increased.

Sorry, but what you're saying is bullshit, and the corrupt UFU fuckwits, and farmers cosplaying firefighters, on parliament steps, wanted to neuter that levy
