It's not that I'm a great fan of the #GObject type system and its way to build object-oriented code in C. I know some of the maintainers aren't as well, which I don't consider a surprise given the age and origin of that GObject ecosystem. So I absolutely understand #Canonical considered switching to #Qt for #Unity8, now #Lomiri.

But that's only one part of the story. The other part is I'm now using #GTK based desktop environments almost full time (only some occasions I turn on my old Mac).

Oh, #Ubuntu 17.04 and #Unity… how I miss you dearly.

(Yes I downloaded the 17.04 ISO and put it on a USB stick just to revisit it one more time.)

Years ago, I remember #Ubuntu demonstrating 'reactive' desktop UIs. #convergance I think it was for #Unity8 (or was it Ubuntu Touch). The main point was that as you resized the window, the interface updated to 'best' fit the available space.

As I snap thunderbird's calendar to half my screen and an email with calendar dates to the other half, I start to think Ubuntu were on to something there...

Ein Glück, dass Unity8/UnityX jetzt endlich in Lomiri umbenannt wurde. Jetzt kann ich endlich in Onlineuchmaschinen "how to run Lomiri on PopOS" eingeben, ohne, dass mir Gameengine Lösungen angezeigt werden.

Ubuntu Touch OTA-13 kommt diese Woche

Am Freitag, dem 4. September wollen die Entwickler von UBports OTA-13 freigeben, eine neue Version von Ubuntu Touch für Linux-Smartphones und Tablets. Während der Vorgänger OTA-12 den lange vorbereiteten Umstieg auf Unity 8, das jetzt Lomiri heißt, abschloss, sollte OTA-13 ein eher kleines Release werden, das liegengebliebene Funktionen aus der Entwicklungsphase zu OTA-12 nachreicht. Das Team von UBports hat die Verfügbarkeit von Ubuntu Touch OTA-12 angekündigt. OTA-12 stellt auf Lomiri (ehemals Unity 8) und das aktuelle Mir 1.2 um und enthält zahlreiche weitere Änderungen.
