We were told to expect some flareups and smoke from inside of the containment area of the fire.
Today we got up to our high of 28° and it looks like there is some smoke rising from the #UnderwoodFire.
I am sure there are lots of eyeballs on it. Thanks to BCWF.
Hooray! #UnderwoodFire has been reclassified from "Out of Control" to "Being Held". Its total area has also decreased by about 100ha to 3548 hectares.
The evacuation order and alerts were also updated yesterday. China Creek Campground is no longer on evacuation order but the road is closed.
That said, the weather will warm back up today. High to 28°C today and in the 30s through the weekend. ☀️

Chris Alemany🇺🇦🇨🇦🇪🇸Sharing this rant to #EndFossilFuels again since *after* I made this, *another* fire (#underwoodFire) started even closer to #PortAlberni. Like so many other towns this year, it has threatened all of our homes and lives.
There is blame to lay: it is at the feet of the fossil fuel industry.
To every person in Canada, including oil industry workers:
We must transition people out of this destructive work at a wartime pace. We can do it, we just have to want to help each other end fossil fuels as soon as possible.

A good BCWF video here and update on the Underwood fire and the impact of the recent rain. Good pictures of what the fire looked yesterday and today. The fire is 3467ha. There has been 33mm on the area of the fire since Thursday/Friday.
No big perimeter changes. They are continuing to work on fire lines and containing it.

Mount Underwood (V71498) operational update, August 15
Going around the lake. It's almost spooky. The entire east half of the #WesleyRidge mountainside is steaming or smoldering. I am not sure which .
In two years, both sides of this lake have had massive fires.
And consider the Wesley and Underwood fires are separated really only by a few river valleys.
There is a path to connect them through the Cameron River Valley, and the world famous Cathedral Grove.

I am headed to Nanaimo briefly today. Going over the hump now. There is a slight smell of smoke. It's crazy to think that I don't know whether it's coming from the Wesley fire or the Underwood fire.
But the good news is it is only 15°C and drizzling
