Inspiriert von @[email protected] bin ich am letzten Tag meines Kurzurlaubs in Hessen ein zweites Mal nach Frankfurt gefahren. Mit dem Ziel, vor allem grafisch orientierte und, wo es sich anbietet, auch reduzierte, minimalistische Streetfotos zu machen. Ich hatte mir dazu auch ein paar wirklich ansehnliche U-Bahnstationen vorgenommen.

Mit der Station Dom / Römer hatte ich noch vom vorigen Besuch eine Rechnung offen. So richtig passte es am gewählten Spot zwar wieder nicht. Aber einige Meter weiter am Fuß der Treppe entstand dieses Foto. Es ist eindeutig mein Lieblingsfoto des Tages. Als ich am nächsten Tag nochmal auf erics Website schaute, musste ich lachen. Er war natürlich auch dort (gleich das erste Foto) und die Bilder sind sich wirklich sehr ähnlich. Nur sein Protagonist ist einige Jahrzehnte älter als meiner.

Wir haben uns in einer anderen Community schon kurz über meinen zweiten Tag in Frankfurt ausgetauscht. Aber die Fotos hat er auch noch nicht gesehen. Mal sehen, ob er sich hier meldet.


Inspired by @[email protected], I made a second trip to Frankfurt on the last day of my short vacation in Hesse. My goal was to take street photos with a graphic focus and, where possible, a clean, minimalist aesthetic. I had also set my sights on a few truly striking subway stations.

I still hadn't finished with the Dom/Römer station from my previous visit. The spot I'd chosen didn't quite work out again. But a few meters further on, at the foot of the stairs, I took this photo. It's definitely my favorite photo of the day. When I checked Eric’s website again the next day, I had to laugh. He was there, of course (the very first photo), and the pictures are really very similar. Only his subject is a few decades older than mine.

We’ve already exchanged a few words about my second day in Frankfurt in another community. But he hasn’t seen the photos yet. Let’s see if he chimes in here.

Nicht viel los am U-Bahnhof Eberswalder Straße. Ostermontag! Einer tritt gerade aus dem Schatten, der andere ist leider schon etwas zu weit für eine perfekte Silhouette vor der hellen Wand. Und etwas mehr Weitwinkel wäre gut gewesen – aber nichts anderes dabei. Irgendwas ist ja immer.

Not much going on at the Eberswalder Straße subway station. Easter Monday! One person is just stepping out of the shadows, while the other has unfortunately already walked a bit too far to make for a perfect silhouette against the bright wall. A wider angle would have been nice—but I didn’t have anything else with me. There’s always something. 🤷‍♂️

Keine Pendler in der U-Bahnstation am Samstag Mittag. Stattdessen kleine Gruppen entspannter Menschen und überall kleine Geschichten wie die der beiden jungen Männer ganz links. Das Foto funktioniert auf dem Smartphone eher nicht und vielleicht ganz generell nicht gut auf Social Media. Aber sei es drum. Mein Problem mit dem Foto ist nur technischer Natur: dank ISO 5000 wirkt alles etwas flach. Blende 2,8 statt 4 hätte genauso gereicht wie 1/60s statt 1/125s. Zwei Blendenstufen mehr Licht – bei ISO 1250 hätte das Foto deutlich mehr Details und Dynamikumfang gehabt.

No commuters in the subway station on Saturday noon. Instead, small groups of relaxed people and little stories everywhere, like the one about the two young men on the far left. The photo doesn't really work on a smartphone and perhaps doesn't work well on social media in general. But so be it. My problem with the photo is purely technical: thanks to ISO 5000, everything looks a bit flat. An aperture of 2.8 instead of 4 would have been just as good as 1/60s instead of 1/125s. Two f-stops more light – at ISO 1250, the photo would have had significantly more detail and dynamic range.

Auch dieser U-Bahnhof gehört zu den neuen Bahnhöfen, die mit der Erweiterung der U5 bis Hauptbahnhof gebaut wurden.

Die dort kreuzende U6 macht diesen Bahnhoif zum Umsteigebahnhof. Dadurch ist die enorme Höhe der unteren Bahnsteighalle entstanden. Mit den vielen Rolltreppen wirkt der Bahnhof ein wenig wie ein Kaufhaus.

Setz das Objektiv direkt auf die Glasscheibe, dann hast du keine störenden Reflexionen. Viel Spaß dann mit der Bearbeitung, falls du weitwinklig fotografierst und durch Neigung der Scheibe und/oder außermittigen Standpunkt nicht in der Flucht bist. Die Korrektur der perspektivische Verzerrung war hier ziemlich aufwändig und das Ergebnis ist nicht perfekt – schaut auf die Schwellen im Vordergrund. In den meisten Fällen reichte die Fotos-App von iOS bisher dafür aus – hier kam sie an ihre Grenzen.

Place the lens directly on the glass pane to avoid annoying reflections. Have fun editing if you're shooting with a wide angle and are not in alignment due to the tilt of the pane and/or off-center position. Correcting the perspective distortion was quite time-consuming here, and the result is not perfect—take a look at the railroad ties in the foreground. In most cases, the iOS Photos app has been sufficient for this task, but here it reached its limits.

Aus meiner noch sehr kleinen #Angekuppelt -Serie. Hier haben die beiden Wagen der Berliner U-Bahn ihre Kupplungen schamhaft vor uns versteckt. Tsts. Beide zeigen uns aber eine Fahrertür – schließlich ist #doorsday.
