UN Vote Exposes U.S. Pressure and Hypocrisy Over Sanctions on Cuba

For more than 30 years, the #UN General Assembly has voted overwhelmingly to end the #US embargo on Cuba.

But this year, the number grew slightly: seven countries voted NO, and a few more abstained.

According to Professor #WilliamLeoGrande, most of those opposing nations either rely heavily on Washington, like #Israel and #Ukraine, or have conservative governments ideologically opposed to Cuba.

Others are nations clashing with Russia, viewing Cuba as its ally.

Behind the numbers lies US diplomatic pressure. Washington can force votes, LeoGrande says, but not genuine support.

Isn’t it funny that Ukraine, currently under attack and under siege by Russia abstained from a UN vote for a ceasefire to protect civilians in an area continuously under bombing raids by an invading force?

Even the Russian Federation is ironically calling for a ceasefire when they refuse to back out of Ukraine and continuously sending troops and missiles to destroy the country. Obviously they’ll vote against whatever the US position is.
