Game over.

The Machine was my 13th Amiga related cosplay. The design is my interpretation that mixes the character’s appearance in the intros of Turrican 2 & 3 with inspiration from other sources, mainly the classic Borg.

This is my biggest costume project to date: it took me 980 crafting hours over 1 year. There was no 3D printing involved, just manual armour making with EVA foam and making use of a whole lot of bits and pieces like old computer chips and cellphone parts.

The Turrican helmet prop is from my 2nd Turrican suit that I made back in 2016.

My most anticipated event of the year, Amiga40, took place last week. I had the honour of being one of the guests there, much like I’d been at Amiga38 and Amiga37 before that.

So much happened that it’s hard to even know where to start. I met many old friends and acquaintances and made some new ones. I attended a concert by FastLoaders, one of my favourite bands. I debuted 3 new Amiga cosplays and got great feedback on all of them. Perhaps most importantly, I got to spend the weekend with people to whom I never had to explain “why Amiga?”, let alone “what Amiga?” - we might have different answers to the question “why”, but regardless of the specifics, we all get it.

To sum it up, I had a wonderful time at Amiga40. It’s safe to say that it was one of the absolute best events I’ve ever visited, Amiga-themed or otherwise. Coincidentally, this was the 40th convention I’ve attended since I started cosplaying in 2013.

I’m back from Amiga40. I’ll post about the event soon, but first I have a lot of photos to go through and thoughts to sort out. Spoiler: the event was fantastic!

In the meantime, here’s a great photo of The Machine, taken by Rudolf Stember. Seeing all the photos and hearing the overwhelmingly positive feedback has been really rewarding. This cosplay took me 980 hours to make, but it was worth it.

I’m on my way to Amiga40 🥳

I managed to finish The Machine as well as 2 other new Amiga related costumes on time. However, there wasn’t enough time to try on all the finished pieces of The Machine and take pictures of the cosplay. The final look will therefore be a surprise to everyone, including myself.

I’ve been very busy painting The Machine’s armour. By now there are only 6 more costume parts left to paint. They’re the biggest ones though, like the boots and the helmet. I also still need to make the cloak.

I have less than 3 weeks left to finish this cosplay and two smaller projects for Amiga40. I’m living in serious crunch time now.

Lately I’ve been busy priming and painting The Machine’s armour. The costume has 20 armour pieces, 9 of which are now completely finished. Here’s one of them: the neck armour.

It’ll take me a few more weeks to finish this project. I also have two smaller costume projects going on at the same time in preparation for Amiga40, so the remaining 5 weeks before the event are going to be quite hectic.

The Machine’s pants are finished, which brings the costume to 22/23 parts (minus the paint job).

I’ve started working on the last missing part: the cloak. I’m quite excited about getting to wear one! The pattern is now ready, but I had to order more fabric, so the cloak is paused until I get the missing materials.

In the meantime I’ve also started adding some final, small details on the armour. I should be able to start priming some of the armour pieces later today.
