A plan to give police officers the power to arrest people suspected of trespassing is being met with skepticism that it will have any meaningful impact on issues businesses are facing around panhandling and vandalism.
Maybe this is a uniquely American thing but how is it not possible to immediately confirm the validity of "what looked like a very legitimate contact"?
If someone had claimed they owned the property this could be confirmed by the county in no time at all. At which point why aren't the occupants then guilty of at least trespass if not breaking and entering?

I've never heard of a "Purple Paint" law before, but apparently it's a somewhat common (22 states) law regarding trespass. Given the number of wackadoodles out there with guns and the itch for an excuse to use them, you should check this out before going hiking or exploring.
