About 2 wks after #ThreePercentEarth finished up its #APFSD exhibit advocating for #systems based approaches for more #holistically fighting #pesticides #pollution, we serendipitously came upon this article in #MekongEye shedding light on how large agro-companies in #Thailand (and across) #Indochina exploit cash-poor small-holder farms w/ economically-bias 'contract farming instruments' that often drive crop burning leading to dangerously intense regional #airpollution. https://www.mekongeye.com/2023/04/10/fixing-air-pollution/
Fixing region's air pollution problems requires bold steps

We're super excited to announce that we will be participating at next week's upcoming #AsiaPacific Forum on #SustainableDevelopment at the #UN Conference Centre in #Bangkok from 27-30 March! Our exhibit at the SDG Acceleration Pavilion will promote our recently peer-review published work in #MJSA, and why a #systems-based approach is needed for helping achieve #SDG6. If you, your organisation, govt. ministry, or business is registered to attend, do stop by our booth! #SDGs #ThreePercentEarth
#Societal complacency & industry lobbying are at the root of #pesticides-driven cost-externalising #agricultural #foodsystems. The result? Lots of #empirical evidence demonstrating #ecological & #publichealth impacts. A recent #ThreePercentEarth #MJSA publication proposes a 'systems-based' framework that promotes 'integrating' public health w/agric. #decisionmaking. Our findings?#BAU #commercial #farming has resulted in substantial 'appreciable public health concern.'

The office headquarters of #ThreePercentEarth is located on the grounds of the #GardenLiapKlong (The Garden), a commercial community centre in #Nonthaburi #Thailand. In addition to our #policyresearch we have partnered with the Garden to raise awareness about meaningful steps people w/in local neighbourhoods can take to help promote community-based #sustainability.
