#JustRead #TheSecretHours by #MickHerron.
While I wanted to take my time, savour the jokes, & marvel at the stop-you-in-your-tracks sentences, I couldn't resist racing through it, hell bent for leather.
It's a thriller, a frightening & hilarious exposé of MI5 & UK politics in all their shoddy, ruthless skulduggery — but written with a poet's touch, dark, beautiful, & very funny.
As a bonus, it's a delicious adjunct to the #SloughHouse series.

The Secret Hours by Mick Herron review – secrets and spies

This companion piece to the Slough House series uncovers intrigue and corruption in the secret service, from 90s Berlin to the Cabinet office

The Guardian

Just finished #DemonCopperhead by #BarbaraKingsolver so naturally have to top up my to read list.

Demon Copperhead is a long book which I nearly gave up on half way through. But I persevered and glad I did, epic story of love, loss, drug addiction, social deprivation with well drawn characters.

Next up #CanticleCreek by #AdrianHyland and #TheSecretHours by #MickHerron.

I know it's two replacing one but you can't have too many. 😀

Have just started to read Mick Herron's latest novel, The Secret Hours. Woof, can he write, or what? His 'slow horses' series is superb and he appears to be continuing in the same vein with this stand-alone novel. He has a very English style to his writing: arch, dry, and cynical. Not to everyone's taste for sure, but I'll happily lap it up. The kind of book I will drop everything to read. Just wonderful.
