Forgive my cynicism but I feel like the death sentence has far more to do with her falling out of favor with her autocratic government friends than swindling poor people out of their life savings. Justice would be making her work to pay it all back.

Poor in a democracy or poor in an autocracy; seems like there's little difference in who takes advantage of them. Same as it ever was.
