On Development: Some rather pedestrian attempts at walkability – Matter News

For walkability to be achieved, the concept must be embedded in the very framework of development.

Matter News
A list of cancelled and retained USAID contracts presented to the US Congress indicates that at least nine African nations may have lost all projects…Analysis of the list by two research fellows at the Centre for Global Development shows the cuts are deepest in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia, Uganda, South Africa, Kenya and Tanzania. Across 44 African countries, they amount to nearly $4 billion in lost funding. —From “The Continent” #Africa #USAID #ForeignPolicy #DRC #Ethiopia #Uganda #Kenya #Tanzania #SouthAfrica #RepublicansDidThis #TheContinent

I've read a lot about the measles outbreak in the USA. I first read about the one in Morocco in The Continent. Over 120 people have died.

On the arrest of the #Telegram founder, from the #Africa focused magazine #TheContinent.

"The case highlights the messiness of social media regulation:
platform owners earn billions while
taking no responsibility for harms caused, and surveillance states may use
that to dismantle user privacy tools, like
end-to-end encryption."

I like the presentation of two, apparently irreconcilable, good things:
Addressing the harms, &,
Privacy of individuals.

>> Reminder from.the ever excellent @thecontinent that the #Ukraine invasion and conflict with #Russia has long tentacles in #Africa too

Africa is going to be a major theater in the next global conflict, and Russia is taking large swaths of #theContinent virtually unopposed, as #France, #US, and the West withdraw from #Niger, #Mali, #BurkinaFaso, #Benin, #Togo, …

That leaves #Wagner, #AlQaeda, #JNIM, and coupist #junta in power over large parts of the continent.
