Recruitment especially tech recruitment is utterly broken.

So many companies / agencies etc bought "AI" enhanced HR systems because it was shiny and new and they wanted to keep up with the Jones' next door.

The people who made decisions about what to buy and why had little knowledge of the tech or how to use it properly. It was new and shiny too and that's all that matters. There probably isn't a Dummies Guide to using AI in HR and never will be.

They bought what the salesman told them they needed and paid over the odds for it too.Fair enough that's how most tech gets bought after all. Oracle and others make billions that way.

They made a sysadmin install the new shiny AI onto the company intranet (only HR use the word intranet any more) and played with it for a bit. They didn't work out how to configure it. They probably don't know you can configure it. Its "AI" right, it sorts itself out? Look, shiny... shiny.

So now if they open a position and the formatting of a candidates CV can't be parsed the "AI" rejects it. If the CV is missing one of 20 key words then reject it. If they have less than X years experience of techology FOOBAR then reject it . A human never sees any of those rejected CVs ever. Woo hoo if you are a recruiter or HR droid.

The HR droids don't know what any of the keywords or technologies are or how someone uses them. Same as it ever was. The difference now is that if you only have 4 years of experience with FOOBAR and not 5 but still meet every criteria and a hell of a lot more besides your CV goes straight in the virtual bin. There is no recruiter reading your CV and thinking this guy is worth a call just to check this one thing. No HR droid asking what a Manager thinks of this persons CV? Is it worth getting them in even if they are missing a years experience with FOOBAR?

So getting hired for a tech job is a lottery. You fire of dozens of on line applications a day and hope your CV makes it through the "AI" filters to a real person. 99% of them don't.

I have spoken to some real recruiters who acknowledge all of this and quite openly too. No one wants to do anything to fix it. All of a sudden recruiters and HR droids have an very easy life thanks to the bastard system they have accidentally created rejecting 95% plus of CVs without them lifting a finger.

For everyone else its hell. I think the only thing to get rid of this shit show is for everyone to lie like hell on our CVs.

If no one is reading it no one will check it. I think I will award myself a 1st in Computer Science from Oxford Uni and say I have been working with React for 15 years.

How about stuffing the last bit of space in your CV with keywords written in 6pt white text on a white background. An "AI" will parse that no problem. Its what SEO people used to do when Google was newish in order to get a higher Page Rank before everyone just paid for that. It would almost certainly work here.

if we all did that their dumb as rocks "AI" becomes useless.

Kick out the Jamms Motherfuckers.
