Hey #electronics #maker types:

If you put together a rather small (~1 - 1.5L) soldering kit that's your "Hey I'm going to sit down and do some soldering" kit, around a #pinecil or #ts100 type iron, what do you make sure goes in there so it all stays together and you don't have to go hunting when you sit down to work?

So far I've got:
* The iron - a Pinecil
* A nice, flexy, properly-capable USB-C cable to run it with
* Some solder wick
* a high-quality piston-type solder sucker
* some 0.8mm flux-core lead-free solder
* an OK'ish set of flush cutters
* a high-quality (Klein) wire stripper 22-30AWG
* a few small pieces of heat-shrink
* a heat-set insert setting tip for the iron
* a small Phillips screwdriver for iron tip changes

I intend to add:
* a piece of brass wool
* a piece of cellulose sponge
* a foldup iron stand

What am I forgetting? My intent with this kit is that it isn't necessarily a "travel soldering kit" and also is not a "everything for electronics" kit, but a useful way for me to organize the tools and some consumables according to purpose.

Have you got ideas? I'd really love to hear them.

At the last nighthack, we used the TS-100 soldering iron to replace the OLED display in another TS-100 unit. We need to go deeper?

And since things got interesting in general, the nighthack ended late...

Open-Source Firmware For Soldering Irons

For most of us, the first soldering iron we pick up to start working on electronics has essentially no features at all. Being little more than resistive heaters plugged straight into the wall with …

So I appear to have bricked my #TS100 (https://github.com/Ralim/IronOS-dfu/issues/11)

Good news: I have a SEGGER J-Link so I *can* unbrick it.
Bad news: I don't think I have a breakout cable for it, so I'll have to figure out a way to plug into the right pins (likely via the probes I use on the Saleae Logic Pro.)

I ended up ordering one of those PCBs used for recovering SD cards, because it's just a lot easier to probe around once you have them. And that means next time I design a board I can add probe points.

Release 0.2 release bricked TS100 (originally v3.42) · Issue #11 · Ralim/IronOS-dfu

Hi, I seem to have bricked my TS100 using release 0.2. I'm not sure what's gone wrong since everything seemed to proceed as in the instructions. I first installed runtime.hex using stock mass stora...

@matzekult Eindeutig. Jetzt muss ich das richtige Bauteil drucken und den zweiten Teil von dem, was ich jetzt schon versehentlich hier liegen habe. ;D ... Braucht wer n 3d-gedrucktes #TS100-Case aus lila PLA? ;D

Instead of working on my #openscad lamp, I soldered a new rx antenna on my sickly #mobula7. I barely even melted part of the battery hoops 😸

Now I just need to get a tune on it that will stop falling over to the left screaming "runaway". I mean, it flies, for like 5s before the safety kicks in. Not as much fun as I was expecting.

#fpvdrone #fpvfreestyle #ts100

I got a ts100 soldering iron for xmas. I gave it a significant workout today and I gotta say I really love it. I was using an entry level weller soldering station for years, which works great, but you turn it on and walk away for 10+ minutes before you can use it. The ts100, although being similarly priced (it doesn't come with a power supply, but I had one that worked) heats up in seconds and has been a joy to use. #ts100 #soldering
Made myself a pair of T12 adapter for #miniware #TS100 and @[email protected] #pinecil v2
Pretty useful, and they work pretty well!

#ProTip: Before connecting a power supply to an electric device, check the output voltage. Just because the plug fits the socket, this does not mean that everything is fine.

I fried my beloved #ts100 soldering iron today. 🤦 Guess I'll order a #Pinecil now...
