Interesting proposal by Lewis Co TRL representative Mittge to condition funding with standards for books based on who is offended by them in his community. His proposal removes the librarians from making informed book purchases and placement decisions. He feels it will help sell voters in Lewis Co to support increased taxes for TRL. I am curious if he considered how such conditions might discourage voters in Thurston County to vote in favor of the levy lid lift with his conditions? TC is the largest population center and largest contributor of funding. In order to implement his idea an additional bureaucratic process of book standards review and placement would likely be needed. Would each community within each member county have their own local books standards review?
